No surprise that Liverpool hosts a collection of the UK’s hottest festivals. We have a selection of those festivals not to be missed:
1. Liverpool Food and Drink Festival
Fancy yourself a foody? Call yourself Green? Attending this festival will leave your stomach and mind nourished. Appreciate displays of innovative, healthier foods and how to prepare them, along with a variety of well-known and locally branded drinks dispensaries, you can taste test to your tummies content. Sectioned off into spaces showcasing home-grown produce, baked goods, street food, as well as outdoor activities and live music, Sefton Park provides a beautiful back drop to this Liverpool’s top foody festival. This year, partnering with charity Whitechapel homeless centre, the festival supports the community coming together in an explosion of culinary delights. Take your bags for life, and fill them up.

2. Liverpool Smithdown Road Festival
Showcasing the musical talents from the Mersey circuit, the non-profit festival spans 8 stages across the Smithdown Road region. All entry is free and worth a visit to wrap your ears round any of the 120 acts due to perform this year. Headliners, The Sundowners have been supporting The Coral on their UK tour, the rest of the festival is sure to provide a variety of new Mersey Music magic. Spoiled for choice from genres a plenty, including Brit Rock and Folk, this festival is guaranteed to satisfy anybody’s musical appetite.

3. Sound City Liverpool
Running over one cram packed weekend of live music is Sound City Liverpool. The start of the UK’s major music festival year, a combination of breakthrough and well established acts take to the stage. Bringing visitors from across the globe to the shores of the Mersey River. Since its inception in 2008, popularity has sky rocketed Sound City Liverpool to be recognised as the UK’s Best Metropolitan Festival, by the UK Festival Awards. Attendance is practically mandatory.
May 28 & 29 2016 – Liverpool Waters Bramley- Moore Dock
5. Liverpool Craft Beer Expo
If to you sun equals beer, Liverpool Craft Beer Expo is the place for you. Held at one of Liverpool’s more dynamic bar spaces, Constellations, this festival is overflowing with art, music food and of course beer. As craft beers are sold at more and more dispensaries across the UK, this festival is an ideal spot to experience all the new and wonderful brews on offer. As well as sampling the palest of pale ales or supping at the latest fruity combo, you can get your groove on and party celebrating the greatest of man’s creations… BEER.
June 16 – June 19 2016 – Constellations Bar, Liverpool
4. Africa Oye Festival
Not only the biggest but the best celebration of African and Caribbean culture in the UK, Sefton Park becomes home to Africa Oye Festival. Encompassing Liverpool’s spirit of multiculturalism and displaying all things Africa, including music, fashion, drink and the arts. There are stalls where supporters can enjoy a 2-day feast of the exotic. With South American and Reggae contributors becoming welcome regular additions to the gathering, visitors can sample cultural delights hailing from these far flung destinations, as well as those from Africa. Immerse yourself in the vibrant smells, colours and sounds for this weekend.
June 18 & 19 2016 – Sefton Park
6. Vintage on the Dock & Transatlantic 175
Liverpool’s Albert Dock will take part in a journey throughout the decades from the 20’s to the 90’s. A feast for the senses, the city hosts a smorgasbord of Vintage offerings through food, art, music, fashion and film. Get your Brit Pop on, dance and shop until you drop, fill your boots with artisan style grub. A great few days to learn where the city has come over the last century, and what has shaped its growth. The epicentre of British cool.
July 9 & 10 2016 – Albert Dock, Mann Island and the waterfront
7. Liverpool International Music Festival
A summer jam to remember, LIMF is widely accredited as the number one leading free festival of its time. Sefton park is due to fill to its brim with revellers from all over, sprawling across the massive park will be stalls and stages to entertain the masses. Enjoy the family friendly zones that make the visit to this festival great for those of any age. Night performances from Liverpool’s Royal Philharmonic Orchestra will bring to life those songs born in Liverpool, which took the world by storm and defined the music of today. A great excuse to visit an outer part of our fair city.
July 22 –24 July 2016 – Sefton Park
8. Fusion Festival
Fusion Festival is a massive two-day line up of UK chart toppers, held at Otterspool Promenade, where pop royalty come together finishing off summer in style. Enjoy the last few rays of summer sun at this child friendly festival. This year you and the family can enjoy the likes of Tinie Tempah and The Vamps, as well as the return of Busted. Surrounded by the festival gardens on Liverpool’s outer city water front, go and get your pop party on.
September 3 & 4 2016 – Otterspool Promenade
9. Liverpool Psych Festival
Nominated the Best UK Festival 2014 and celebrated as a significant platform for “Audio Futurists” to showcase their talents is Liverpool Psych Fest. A combination of DJ sets, international artists and open conversations from industry leaders, arrive in the cities former industrial sector, The Baltic Triangle. Filling the air with kaleidoscopes of colour and clouds of glitter, the weird and wonderful descend on this diverse weekend long exhibition. To celebrate the current psychedelia scene with like-minded folk, this is one to add to your calendar.
September 23 & 24 September 2016 – Camp and Furnace/Blade Factory/District
10. Liverpool Comedy festival
The biggest names in comedy come to the funniest city in the world, offering up their punchy one-liners and storytelling talents that make us LOL. Coming to laughter-filled venues across the city for a week of hilarity. The full line up is to be confirmed but you can bet your boots if you should attend, you’ll be laughing your socks off.
